Lebanese President Vows to Do Whatever Needed for Country’s Salvation

(MENAFN) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Friday that he is prepared to “go anywhere” to secure what he described as Lebanon’s “salvation,” as a ceasefire with Israel comes into effect.

In a televised address marking the first day of the ceasefire, Aoun said the agreement aims to ensure Israeli withdrawal from occupied areas and to restore full state authority across Lebanese territory.

He described the current moment as a turning point for the country, warning that difficult challenges are expected in the coming period.

“We are certain we will face many attacks in the coming phase, for a simple reason: we have reclaimed Lebanon and its decision-making for the first time in nearly half a century,” he said.

Aoun stressed that Lebanon is now operating based on its own national decisions and no longer serves as a battleground for external conflicts.

“We are no longer a card in anyone’s pocket, nor an arena for others’ wars, and we will never return to that,” he added.

He said he is ready to take full responsibility for the next stage, including efforts aimed at restoring territory, protecting citizens, and strengthening state authority, while reaffirming that the ceasefire’s core objective is the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the expansion of government control throughout the country.

Aoun also vowed to prevent further loss of life, saying he would not allow continued suffering of Lebanese civilians for the benefit of external interests or regional rivalries.
