Iran Denies US Claims of Sinking Naval Boats in Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) According to reports, Iran has strongly rejected US statements claiming that American forces destroyed several Iranian naval vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, calling the allegations false and misleading.

A senior Iranian military figure, quoted by Iranian media, dismissed the US account, insisting that no Iranian combat boats were sunk and characterizing the claims as untrue. The denial came in response to statements from US military officials who said that forces operating in the region had neutralized what they described as Iranian naval threats to commercial shipping.

US officials said the operation was carried out as part of a broader maritime security initiative aimed at protecting shipping traffic through the strategically important waterway. They also stated that helicopters and other military assets were deployed during the operation and that multiple Iranian vessels were targeted.

Iranian sources, however, disputed this version of events and rejected the description of the incident, while also accusing Washington of escalating tensions in the region.

At the same time, competing claims emerged from both sides regarding separate naval incidents, with each side denying the other’s reports about strikes on military vessels. The exchange reflects a broader pattern of conflicting narratives surrounding maritime activity in the area.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global shipping route, and tensions have intensified in recent months amid military activity, disrupted navigation, and competing security arrangements proposed by regional actors. Efforts to reach a lasting diplomatic arrangement have so far not resulted in a comprehensive agreement.

Iranian officials have also criticized recent US-led security measures in the region, describing them as destabilizing and warning against further escalation, while Washington maintains that its actions are necessary to ensure the safety of commercial shipping.
