Missile Interception Over UAE Signals Renewed Tensions After Truce

(MENAFN) The UAE’s Defense Ministry announced on Monday that four cruise missiles launched from Iran toward the country were detected, noting that most of them were successfully intercepted by air defense systems.

This incident represents the first such occurrence since a ceasefire between Iran and the United States came into effect last month.

As stated in an official release, three of the missiles were neutralized over the UAE’s territorial waters, while the remaining projectile landed in the sea without causing harm.

Authorities clarified that the sounds heard across various areas were linked to the interception of the incoming aerial threats.

The ministry also called on residents to depend on official channels for updates and to strictly follow safety guidelines during emergency situations.

Earlier, the Interior Ministry reported that “Air defense systems are currently dealing with a missile threat,” urging residents to stay in a safe place.

No casualties or material damage were immediately reported following the incident.

Tensions in the region have intensified since late February, when US and Israeli strikes targeted Iran, prompting Tehran to respond with attacks on Israel and US-aligned countries in the Gulf, as well as shutting down the Strait of Hormuz.

Further developments since mid-April include a US naval blockade aimed at Iranian shipping in the strategic passage.

A temporary two-week ceasefire was reached on April 8 through mediation efforts, followed by direct negotiations held in Islamabad on April 11; however, these discussions failed to produce a long-term agreement.

Subsequently, US President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire period without specifying a new end date, reportedly at Pakistan’s request.
