Iran Warns Against Escalation in Hormuz, Rejects US Maritime Plan

(MENAFN) According to reports, Iran’s foreign minister has stated that military action cannot resolve the ongoing political tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, while issuing warnings to both the United States and the United Arab Emirates against further escalation.

In remarks shared on social media, he stressed that developments in the strategic waterway demonstrate the limits of military approaches to political disputes. He also cautioned external actors involved in regional talks, suggesting that continued escalation could deepen instability despite ongoing diplomatic efforts facilitated by third parties.

The Iranian official also rejected a US-backed initiative aimed at escorting commercial shipping through the strait, dismissing the proposal as ineffective and unlikely to resolve underlying tensions.

These comments come amid renewed regional friction following reported missile and drone activity involving the UAE. Authorities in the Emirates stated that multiple incoming projectiles were intercepted, though some strikes caused damage to infrastructure, including a fire at an energy facility on the country’s eastern coast.

The latest developments follow a period of fragile calm established after earlier military exchanges in the region earlier in the year. A ceasefire had been reached through mediation efforts, but subsequent negotiations have not resulted in a permanent agreement, and tensions have resurfaced intermittently.

Overall, the situation reflects continued volatility in and around one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors, with both diplomatic messaging and military posturing shaping the evolving crisis.
