Iranian VP Vows to Stand Firm on Tehran’s Rights

(MENAFN) Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref declared Sunday that Tehran would not waver in asserting its national rights — from strategic control of the Strait of Hormuz to the pursuit of war reparations — one day after inconclusive negotiations with Washington in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Aref invoked the theme of national solidarity, characterizing what he described as deepening cohesion across Iranian society as a cornerstone of the government's strategy for advancing the country's interests on the international stage.

"From strength in the Strait of Hormuz to pursuing compensation, we stand firm on the rights of the people; this is our commitment to a strong Iran," he said.

The Vice President further underscored Tehran's resolve to protect its sovereign rights while pressing forward simultaneously on both diplomatic and domestic fronts.

Talks Collapse Without a Deal
Iranian and American delegations wrapped up the latest round of Islamabad negotiations Saturday with no agreement in hand. The discussions, brokered by Pakistan, came after several prior rounds of talks and an exchange of competing proposals — none of which succeeded in bridging the divide between the two sides.

Both delegations departed the Pakistani capital with fundamental disagreements still intact, though each signaled that the diplomatic door had not been shut entirely, and that further engagement would be necessary.

The Islamabad round was part of sweeping international efforts to bring an end to the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran — a conflict that erupted on Feb. 28 — operating under the terms of a tenuous two-week ceasefire that Pakistan brokered earlier this week.
