U.S. Runs Low on Missile Stock as Iran War Escalates
A senior US official cited by media warned Monday that Washington is bracing for a "major uptick" in attacks within the next 24 hours, even as stockpiles of critical munitions continue to shrink at an alarming rate.
The official noted that the opening wave of strikes has effectively degraded Iranian defensive capabilities. The next phase of the campaign is expected to zero in on Iran's missile manufacturing infrastructure, drone production networks, and naval assets.
The shortfall extends beyond frontline missiles. The Pentagon is also grappling with a depleted inventory of Patriot air defense missiles — a direct consequence of four years of sustained supply to Ukraine's war effort against Russia.
US military commanders reported sweeping gains since the campaign's launch Saturday. US Central Command stated that all 11 Iranian vessels operating in the Gulf of Oman had been destroyed.
US President Donald Trump claimed that 49 Iranian leadership figures had been killed, among them Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Overnight Sunday, US B-2 stealth bombers conducted strikes against Iran's fortified ballistic missile installations.
The offensive has not come without cost. At least six US service members have been killed and 18 others critically wounded since operations began.
Tehran has responded with retaliatory drone and missile attacks directed at Gulf nations hosting US military installations, further widening the theater of conflict.
