Trump Keeps Iran Strategy Secret
In recent weeks, the United States has sent what Trump described as a “massive” and “beautiful armada” to the area, spearheaded by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, aiming to compel Tehran to accept his conditions for a revised nuclear agreement.
During an interview with Fox News on Saturday, Trump was asked whether he had informed Washington’s Persian Gulf allies about potential U.S. military operations. He responded that revealing such information might weaken the chances of achieving a peaceful solution.
“Well, we can’t tell them the plan. If I told them the plan, it would be almost as bad as telling you the plan – it could be worse, actually,” Trump explained. “But look, the plan is that [Iran is] talking to us, and we’ll see if we can do something; otherwise, we’ll see what happens.”
Meanwhile, Tehran has also hinted that discussions with Washington may remain feasible. Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, who met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin the previous day, indicated that progress is being made toward potential negotiations.
