US to Impose Visa Bans on European Figures

(MENAFN) The US State Department has announced that it will deny entry to several Western European nationals accused of pressuring American technology companies to silence US perspectives, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

This decision follows a policy introduced earlier this year that restricts visas for foreign individuals alleged to have engaged in censorship targeting Americans.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Rubio declared that “ideologues in Europe have led organized efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose.” He added, “The Trump Administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Rubio emphasized that the State Department “will take steps to bar leading figures of the global censorship‑industrial complex from entering the United States,” warning that Washington is “ready and willing to expand this list if others do not reverse course.”

According to US Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah Rogers, five individuals — two French, two British, and one German — have been identified. She named leaders of organizations focused on combating digital hate, along with former European Commissioner Thierry Breton.
