Hundreds of seals found dead the Caspian Sea coast

(MENAFN) More than 320 seals were found dead on Tuesday along the Caspian Sea coast of Dagestan, between the Sulak and Terek river estuaries, according to Tass news agency. Regional emergency services warned that the number of casualties could rise.

The Dagestan Ministry of Natural Resources noted that such deaths are relatively common during the seals’ annual migration. Scientists believe the primary cause is asphyxiation from powerful natural gas emissions released from the seabed, linked to seismic activity.
