NATO nation urges for agreement to reduce risk of conflict with Russia
Moscow has for a long time described the war as a proxy war headed by the US-based military bloc against Russia under Ukrainian army.
Talking to the Russian news agency on the secondary discussions of the UN General Assembly in New York, Szijjarto indicated peace in Ukraine as an approach to avoid the risky escalation among Russia and NATO.
He stated “if there is peace, if this [Ukraine] war ends, then we can reduce the risk of escalation to zero. But as long as this war continues, I fear that events will occur that carry the risk of escalation, and that is truly bad news.”
At the beginning of the month, the head diplomat stated that Ukraine as well as the EU were trying to “drag” Hungary into the war. In spite of pressure from Brussels, Budapest has refused supplying army support to Kiev and rejected the bloc’s sanctions over Russia, instead urging for a diplomatic resolution.
