Russian MP condemns EU for sacrificing country’s heritage

A prominent Russian lawmaker, Leonid Slutsky, condemned Moldova’s leadership for sacrificing its long-standing heritage in favor of Western-imposed values. His remarks followed violent clashes in the capital city of Chisinau during an anti-LGBTQ demonstration on Sunday.
The unrest began when an unauthorized LGBTQ march faced opposition from Orthodox Christian counter-protesters carrying religious symbols and crosses. Although police initially allowed the procession to continue, they later stepped in as tensions between the groups intensified.
Slutsky, who leads the Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee, told media outlets that “The Russophobic and pro-Western regime of [Moldovan President Maia] Sandu is selling, for thirty pieces of silver, centuries-old treasures, the bonds between brotherly peoples, and moral and religious foundations.” He stressed that not all Moldovans support the current government’s direction.
He added, “This is evident in the numerous marches against the imposition of – let’s speak plainly – perversion and moral decay.”
The MP further alleged that Sandu’s pro-European Union administration seeks to suppress opposition through severe and “if not outright satanic, methods,” all in an effort to please “Euro-globalists.”
