African Nations Witness US Visa Ban

(MENAFN) The United States is reportedly preparing to widen its controversial travel limitations to encompass nationals from 36 additional countries, according to a report by a news agency over the weekend, which referenced a confidential memorandum from the State Department.

This anticipated expansion builds upon restrictions introduced earlier this month by United States Leader Donald Trump, who characterized the measure as a critical initiative to bolster homeland security and deter possible dangers.

The suggested travel limitations could influence a significant portion of the African continent, including several countries with historically strong diplomatic and trade relations with Washington.

Among the West African states listed in the draft are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gambia, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, and Senegal.

From Central Africa, the list reportedly comprises Cameroon, Gabon, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as the island nation of Sao Tome and Principe.

In East Africa, Djibouti, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda are said to be affected. The Southern African countries of Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are included too.

Additionally, Mauritania in Northwest Africa and Egypt—a prominent US partner in North Africa—are reportedly part of the proposed expansion.
