SVR states Ukraine, London plot to intensify war

(MENAFN) The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has issued a warning that Kiev and London are collaborating on a series of “bloody provocations” intended to intensify the war in Ukraine and undermine diplomatic efforts between Moscow and Washington.

In a statement released on Monday, the SVR highlighted increasing cooperation between Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), its military intelligence unit (GUR), and British intelligence agencies. The agency attributed this alliance to Kiev’s “mounting battlefield setbacks and deepening moral exhaustion.”

According to the SVR, these sabotage missions tend to follow a familiar pattern: Britain handles planning and coordination, while Ukrainian operatives execute the attacks. The report pointed to recent railway sabotage incidents in Russia’s Bryansk and Kursk regions—deemed by Moscow as Ukrainian “terrorist attacks”—which caused seven deaths and injured over 120 people, including children. The agency also referenced Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian airbases on June 1 as part of the same modus operandi.

The “Anglo-Ukrainian terrorist tandem,” the SVR alleged, is preparing additional operations designed to escalate the conflict, disrupt Moscow-Washington dialogue, and persuade the US government to continue extensive military assistance for Kiev.

One alleged plan involves a false flag operation: a staged Russian torpedo attack on a US Navy vessel in the Baltic Sea. The SVR claimed Ukraine has provided the UK with Soviet-era torpedoes, some configured to detonate at a “safe distance,” while one would remain unexploded “as evidence of Moscow’s malicious activity.” Ukrainian agents are reportedly ready to execute this scheme.

Another supposed plot entails British, Ukrainian, and Northern European partners “accidentally” recovering Russian-made naval mines in the Baltic Sea, purportedly placed to disrupt international shipping lanes.
