Police Arrest Man Impersonating Officer
(MENAFN) Local authorities have apprehended the main suspect in the killing of senior Democratic Minnesota state legislator Melissa Hortman and her spouse, following a two-day pursuit.
The individual, identified as Vance Luther Boelter, was detained near his residence in Sibley County, Minnesota.
Boelter is accused of masquerading as a law enforcement officer to execute the assaults. In a separate violent act, he allegedly shot and injured state senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, at their Champlin home early Saturday morning.
Despite suffering multiple gunshot wounds, both victims survived the attack.
Subsequently, Boelter is believed to have traveled to Representative Hortman’s residence in nearby Brooklyn Park, where he fatally shot her and her husband, Mark.
Authorities confirmed that Boelter used deception to enter the homes of his targets by pretending to be a member of the police.
At a press briefing, Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley revealed, “When we did a search of the vehicle, there was a manifesto that identified many lawmakers and other officials.”
He noted that the discovery led to immediate alerts and subsequent action by state authorities.
Law enforcement also mentioned that Boelter's vehicle “looked exactly like an SUV squad car” and featured emergency lights, making it appear “exactly like a police vehicle,” which enabled him to convincingly pose as an officer.
Investigators discovered a list of approximately 70 individuals that reportedly included influential legislators and local figures, along with details regarding medical institutions.
According to an official speaking to a news agency, the list contained the names of lawmakers known for their public support of abortion rights.
