Kiev voices remarks on recent round of negotiations with Moscow
Umerov, who led Ukraine’s delegation, told the press that the discussions covered several key issues, including a ceasefire, humanitarian concerns, and the possibility of a future meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Regarding prisoner swaps, Umerov explained that the focus would be on specific groups rather than total numbers. Both sides agreed to carry out an “all-for-all” exchange involving all seriously wounded and ill prisoners of war.
Additionally, young soldiers aged 18 to 25 will be exchanged on the same “all-for-all” basis, along with the reciprocal return of 6,000 bodies of deceased soldiers.
Umerov also mentioned that Ukraine has proposed a third round of talks to be held between June 20 and 30.
These negotiations mark the second direct meeting between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators since Kyiv halted peace talks in 2022. The first resumed round took place on May 16 at the invitation of President Putin.
