Russia Kicks Off Massive Pacific Fleet Drills in Far East
Commanded by Admiral Viktor Liina, the exercise aligns with the Russian Navy’s regular training schedule and will run from June 16 through June 30.
Naval forces are conducting operations across multiple maritime zones, including the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the Sea of Japan. The extensive training scenario encompasses a broad spectrum of combat and logistical missions.
During the two-week drill, units will rehearse key wartime maneuvers such as tracking and engaging submarines, shielding naval convoys from air and sea-based threats, and executing coordinated missile strikes on both single and multiple enemy targets at sea.
The Defense Ministry also noted that the exercise will evaluate the fleet’s ability to sustain prolonged operations away from home ports, testing technical and logistical endurance under realistic combat conditions.
The scale of the operation is significant: more than 40 warships, support vessels, and boats are deployed alongside 30+ aircraft and helicopters from naval aviation. Over 5,000 personnel—including both service members and civilian experts—are participating. Additionally, coastal defense units equipped with Bastion missile systems have been mobilized to bolster maritime strike capabilities.
