Russia Returns Thousands of Ukrainian Bodies
In a statement shared on Telegram on Monday, the presidential aide revealed that a total of 6,060 sets of military remains were repatriated to Ukraine.
In return, Kiev handed over the bodies of 78 fallen Russian fighters, Medinsky noted.
This mutual return of remains was arranged during the most recent face-to-face negotiations between the two sides, which took place in June and were hosted by Türkiye.
At that meeting, Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s Defense Minister and Medinsky’s counterpart, indicated that Kiev intended to return a matching number of Russian casualties.
Previously, in April, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said in an interview that Ukraine had suffered losses of up to 100,000 soldiers since the conflict intensified in 2022.
However, the Russian Defense Ministry has claimed that Ukraine's fatalities are significantly greater than that estimate, asserting that the majority of those losses occurred by the end of 2024.
