Moscow, Kiev approve biggest-ever inmates exchange
Medinsky announced that all prisoners of war under the age of 25 will be included in the exchange. The deal aims to swap at least 1,000 individuals from each side, with the final numbers still being confirmed.
Additionally, Russia plans to return the bodies of 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv next week to allow for proper burials.
Regarding peace efforts, Medinsky shared that Russia has submitted a draft settlement proposal to Ukraine, divided into two parts: one focusing on establishing lasting peace and the other outlining steps toward a complete ceasefire with various options. Ukraine’s delegation is currently reviewing the document and will respond after completing their assessment.
Moscow has also suggested a temporary ceasefire lasting two to three days in selected areas of the frontline to enable the retrieval of fallen soldiers’ bodies and prevent health risks as warmer weather approaches. The Ukrainian side has agreed to consider this proposal promptly.
Furthermore, both sides have consented to set up medical commissions to compile exchange lists for severely wounded soldiers, allowing for more frequent and routine prisoner swaps without waiting for major political decisions.
