Tokyo’s Stocks Drop for Third Straight Day Amid Trade Conflicts
Japan’s key benchmark, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, closed 23.86 points lower—a 0.06 percent decline—at 37,446.81.
Meanwhile, the broader Topix index slipped 6.18 points, or 0.22 percent, ending the day at 2,771.11.
Analysts noted the Nikkei initially gained ground on optimism that US-China trade disputes might ease.
However, the index reversed direction as investors stayed wary following recent unpredictable moves in US tariff policies, including President Donald Trump’s announcement to double tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
